Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup bourbon, divided
- 1/4 cup raspberry vinegar
- 1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon tabasco sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh coarse ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke, if cooking on stovetop
Recipe
- 1 in a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat and add the onion and garlic and saute until tender, about 5 minutes.
- 2 add the ketchup, 1/4 cup of the bourbon, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, soy sauce, tabasco, black pepper, and cayenne. mix thoroughly.
- 3 smoke on your smoker for 2 hours or add the liquid smoke and simmer for 20 minutes over low heat on the stovetop.
- 4 stir in the remaining 1/4 cup bourbon.
- 5 use as a basting sauce or as a finishing and table sauce on beef, chicken and lamb.
