Charishma's Homemade Plain Kulchas

Total Time: 2 hrs 10 mins Preparation Time: 1 hr 25 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2-2 cups fresh low-fat milk, warm
  • 2 tablespoons yoghurt
  • salt

Recipe

  • 1 in a bowl take some warm water.
  • 2 sprinkle yeast and sugar over it.
  • 3 keep aside for 5 minutes or till frothy.
  • 4 take a large plate.
  • 5 mix salt and flour in it.
  • 6 make a well in the center.
  • 7 add yoghurt in the well.
  • 8 sprinkle baking soda over yoghurt.
  • 9 allow to stand for 2-3 minutes.
  • 10 pour oil and yeast solution in the well.
  • 11 mix gradually.
  • 12 use milk as required to make a soft- stiff dough.
  • 13 brush dough with oil.
  • 14 cover with an inverted bowl.
  • 15 keep aside for 4 hours or longer if the weather is cold.
  • 16 grease palms well and punch dough till soft and elastic.
  • 17 cover again.
  • 18 keep aside for 10 minutes.
  • 19 break off a lump of dough.
  • 20 roll or pat into a thick round (about 6" in diameter).
  • 21 rost on a hot griddle till golden spots appear or shallow fry on griddle.
  • 22 serve hot with gravied vegetables, indian dals, etc.
