Baked Roux

Total Time: 1 hr 2 mins Preparation Time: 2 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 20
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 cups vegetable oil

Recipe

  • 1 mix the flour and oil in an iron skillet or heavy oven proof container.
  • 2 i use a cast iron dutch oven.
  • 3 bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes with a whisk.
  • 4 the color determines the doneness.
  • 5 cool before storing.
  • 6 you must stir every 15 minutes or it will burn.
  • 7 in my oven 1 1/2 hours is perfect.
  • 8 after removing from the oven, stir again and stir every few minutes until it cools and quits browning.
