Chinese Savory Beef

Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 lbs lean beef, cut into strips
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 2 slices ginger
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 3 cups water
Recipe
- 1 heat oil in dutch oven. fry beef until brown. add onions, garlic and ginger. stir-fry a few minutes. add soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper and water. bring to a boil. reduce heat, cover and simmer for 3 hours. add more liquid, if needed. just before serving, thicken with a small amount of flour or corn starch. serve over rice or noodles.
- 2 optional: 30 minutes before serving, add 1/2 lb of vegetables. mushrooms, green pepper, carrots and peas all work well.
