Chinese Savory Beef

Total Time: 3 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 3 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 lbs lean beef, cut into strips
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 slices ginger
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 cups water

Recipe

  • 1 heat oil in dutch oven. fry beef until brown. add onions, garlic and ginger. stir-fry a few minutes. add soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper and water. bring to a boil. reduce heat, cover and simmer for 3 hours. add more liquid, if needed. just before serving, thicken with a small amount of flour or corn starch. serve over rice or noodles.
  • 2 optional: 30 minutes before serving, add 1/2 lb of vegetables. mushrooms, green pepper, carrots and peas all work well.
